Jan-bart gewald

Jan-Bart Gewald is a socio-cultural historian of southern Africa and professor of African History at Leiden University.  He grew up and was educated at a variety of schools in several southern African countries. Jan-Bart is working on a multispecies history of Kimberley.

Walker Swindell

Walker Swindell is a PhD candidate at Leiden University with a strong academic foundation in southern African history. He holds a Research Master’s degree in History from Utrecht University, where he also earned his Bachelor’s degree in History with honours. He grew up in South Africa. Walker is working on a multispecies history of Kabwe.

Maaike Rozema

Maaike Rozema is a PhD candidate at Leiden University and holds a Master’s degree in Anthropology, Environment, and Development from University College London. Her academic work as an anthropologist focuses on the complex relationships between humans and non-human beings, examining how these connections shape and have shaped our world. Maaike is working on a multispecies history of Tsumeb.
